15 (A)“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. 16 (B)You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not (C)stand up against the life[a] of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

17 (D)“You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but (E)you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you (F)incur sin because of him. 18 (G)You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but (H)you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

You Shall Keep My Statutes

19 (I)“You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind. (J)You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material.

20 “If a man lies sexually with a woman who is a slave, assigned to another man and not yet ransomed or given her freedom, a distinction shall be made. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free; 21 but (K)he shall bring his compensation to the Lord, to the entrance of the tent of meeting, a ram for a guilt offering. 22 And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the Lord for his sin that he has committed, and he shall be forgiven for the sin that he has committed.

23 “When you come into the land and plant any kind of tree for food, then you shall regard its fruit as forbidden.[b] Three years it shall be forbidden to you; it must not be eaten. 24 And in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord. 25 But in the fifth year you may eat of its fruit, to increase its yield for you: I am the Lord your God.

26 (L)“You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. (M)You shall not interpret omens or (N)tell fortunes. 27 (O)You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. 28 You shall not make any (P)cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.

29 (Q)“Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravity. 30 (R)You shall keep my Sabbaths and (S)reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

31 (T)“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

32 (U)“You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall (V)fear your God: I am the Lord.

33 (W)“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 34 (X)You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and (Y)you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

35 (Z)“You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity. 36 (AA)You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin:[c] I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37 And (AB)you shall observe all my statutes and all my rules, and do them: I am the Lord.”

Jehu Strikes Down the Prophets of Baal

18 Then Jehu assembled all the people and said to them, (A)“Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him much. 19 Now therefore call to me all the (B)prophets of Baal, all his worshipers and all his priests. Let none be missing, for I have a great sacrifice to offer to Baal. Whoever is missing shall not live.” But Jehu did it with cunning in order to destroy the worshipers of Baal. 20 And Jehu ordered, (C)“Sanctify (D)a solemn assembly for Baal.” So (E)they proclaimed it. 21 And Jehu sent throughout all Israel, and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. And they entered (F)the house of Baal, and the house of Baal was filled from one end to the other. 22 He said to him who was in charge of the wardrobe, “Bring out the vestments for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out the vestments for them. 23 Then Jehu went into the house of Baal with Jehonadab the son of Rechab, and he said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search, and see that there is no servant of the Lord here among you, but only the worshipers of Baal.” 24 Then they[a] went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings.

Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside and said, “The man who allows any of those whom I give into your hands to escape (G)shall forfeit his life.” 25 So as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guard and to the officers, (H)“Go in and strike them down; let not a man escape.” So when they put them to the sword, the guard and the officers cast them out and went into the inner room of the house of Baal, 26 and they brought out the (I)pillar that was in (J)the house of Baal and burned it. 27 And they demolished the (K)pillar of Baal, and demolished the house of Baal, and made it (L)a latrine to this day.

Jehu Reigns in Israel

28 Thus Jehu wiped out Baal from Israel. 29 But Jehu did not turn aside from (M)the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, (N)which he made Israel to sin—that is, the golden calves that were in Bethel and in Dan. 30 And the Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, (O)your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.” 31 But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. (P)He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin.

32 In those days the Lord (Q)began to cut off parts of Israel. (R)Hazael defeated them throughout the territory of Israel: 33 from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from (S)Aroer, which is by the Valley of the Arnon, that is, (T)Gilead and Bashan. 34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 35 So Jehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place. 36 The time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.

Jerusalem, a Useless Vine

15 And the word of the Lord came to me: (A)“Son of man, how does (B)the wood of the vine surpass any wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest? Is wood taken from it to make anything? Do people take (C)a peg from it to hang any vessel on it? (D)Behold, it is given to the fire for fuel. When the fire has consumed both ends of it, and the middle of it is charred, is it useful for anything? (E)Behold, when it was whole, it was used for nothing. How much less, when the fire has consumed it and it is charred, can it ever be used for anything! Therefore thus says the Lord God: (F)Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, (G)which I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem. (H)And I will set my face against them. Though (I)they escape from the fire, the fire shall yet consume them, (J)and you will know that I am the Lord, (K)when I set my face against them. (L)And I will make the land desolate, because (M)they have acted faithlessly, declares the Lord God.”

13 You will (A)arise and have (B)pity on Zion;
    it is the time to favor her;
    (C)the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants hold her (D)stones dear
    and have pity on her dust.
15 Nations will (E)fear the name of the Lord,
    and all (F)the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
16 For the Lord (G)builds up Zion;
    he (H)appears in his glory;
17 he (I)regards the prayer of the destitute
    and does not despise their prayer.

18 Let this be (J)recorded for (K)a generation to come,
    so that (L)a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
19 that he (M)looked down from his holy height;
    from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear (N)the groans of the prisoners,
    to set free (O)those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may (P)declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
    and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when (Q)peoples gather together,
    and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.

23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
    he (R)has shortened my days.
24 “O my God,” (S)I say, “take me not away
    in the midst of my days—
(T)you whose years endure
    throughout all generations!”

25 (U)Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
    and (V)the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 (W)They will perish, but (X)you will remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27     but (Y)you are the same, and your years have no end.
28 (Z)The children of your servants (AA)shall dwell secure;
    (AB)their offspring shall be established before you.

Jesus Heals a Woman and Jairus's Daughter

40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd (A)welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 (B)And there came a man named Jairus, who was (C)a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus' feet, he implored him to come to his house, 42 for he had (D)an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

As Jesus went, the people (E)pressed around him. 43 And there was a woman (F)who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her (G)living on physicians,[a] she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched (H)the fringe of his garment, and (I)immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter[b] said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that (J)power has gone out from me.”

The Light of the Gospel

Therefore, having (A)this ministry (B)by the mercy of God,[a] we do not lose heart. But we have renounced (C)disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice[b] cunning or (D)to tamper with God's word, but (E)by the open statement of the truth (F)we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. And even (G)if our gospel is veiled, (H)it is veiled to (I)those who are perishing. In their case (J)the god of this world (K)has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing (L)the light of (M)the gospel of the glory of Christ, (N)who is the image of God. For what (O)we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with (P)ourselves as your servants[c] for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, (Q)“Let light shine out of darkness,” (R)has shone in our hearts to give (S)the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
